Lawrence Has Gone From Disappointing To Dominant In Just Over A Month
The Jacksonville Jaguars are in their twenty eighth season as a franchise, and for the first time they have a clear franchise quarterback for the next decade plus. When 'The Prince Who Was Promised' came to the Jaguars, fans expected the Jaguars to make a fast rise to playoff contention. Unfortunately, they were confronted with what was undoubtedly the worst head coach in NFL history and thought he may have ruined the franchise's greatest gift, Trevor Lawrence. Only a month and a half ago, football fans were mocking the Jaguars and calling Lawrence a generational bust, and even some fans began to lose faith understandably. Then everything changed.
When fans think about the best quarterbacks across the NFL, the immediate names used to include Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady, and some various younger names. Although none of those quarterbacks have left that conversation, there's been huge questions surrounding their game this season. Patrick Mahomes, although he may be on track to win MVP, has had a growing issue with mental errors, making questionable decisions in games that either have or could have led to turnovers. Although it hasn't cost the Chiefs that much, that could prove to be a detrimental problem. Tom Brady hasn't necessarily been bad, but he has had virtually no chance of success on a Buccaneers team that cannot get out of its own way. It seems like the standard for best quarterback has fallen this year.
If you compare Trevor Lawrence starting in Week 9 to Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady, you will undoubtedly find that Lawrence has been playing at a higher level. Lawrence outside of two lost fumbles has been mistake free, amassing nearly 300 total yards per game and 11 total touchdowns. For Patrick Mahomes, he's been able to outproduce Lawrence significantly in terms of total yards per game and match his touchdowns per game, but he's made several critical mistakes through the air with nearly an interception per game. Tom Brady falls behind Lawrence in all of these categories.
There's New Faces Representing The Quarterback Position In The NFL

I think that right now the argument for who is the best quarterback in the NFL comes down to Jalen Hurts, Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, and Trevor Lawrence. Hurts has played out of his mind this season with 32 total touchdowns and 3 interceptions, showing how disciplined he's become with the ball. Over the course of the entire season, it's clear that Jalen Hurts has done the most of every quarterback in the NFL to elevate his team's record. The Eagles have gone from a fringe playoff team to the top of the NFL, and honestly I bet they're going to end up hoisting a Lombardi Trophy at the end of this season.
The competition behind Hurts is not that far back, and the ceiling for each of those players is essentially unlimited. Joe Burrow has shown the ability to step up in as big of a moment as you could imagine and win. When he's playing at his best, it's nearly impossible to defeat him without giving him a chance to win. Patrick Mahomes has done the same and he's shown that he can dominate any game with a good enough team, he just needs to confront his turnover issues. With Trevor Lawrence, we're just now getting to see the evidence of what makes him such a special player. I can honestly say that if I had a choice of any quarterback in the NFL to lead my team for the rest of their career, I would without hesitation choose Lawrence.
Lawrence Will Need To Have Playoff Success To Be Considered The Best

Nothing matters in the history books of the NFL if it doesn't lead to a championship. For Trevor Lawrence, the next step now that he's elevated his own play is to elevate his own team. Take Jacksonville to the playoffs and go win some games. At some point in the near future, this team should win a Super Bowl. That's not a hot take, that's a simple look at what the Jaguars are becoming.
Trevor Lawrence has the mental makeup, the physical tools, and the decision making to be better than all of his competitors. He's going to be surrounded with playmakers next year, he has a great head coach, and this team is full of young players who will continue to turn into difference makers. As we watch the Jaguars improve, the goal for this team is going to go from erasing the old culture to establishing new traditions. Beating the Titans in Nashville could've been the beginning of that new era. Rejoice Duval Faithful, Trevor Lawrence is the answer for this franchise and we're heading towards a golden era of Jaguars football!
