Texans Stun The Colts In Final Minutes Of Regulation But Lose The First Overall Pick
Saturday night's game was undoubtedly the most important game of the weekend. It was the biggest regular season matchup in Jacksonville history and could mark the beginning of a new era of Jaguars football. Now that the Jaguars are 'Kings of the South,' they'll have to defend the title and monitor the progress of other divisional teams.
Heading into Sunday's slate of games, it seemed like the Texans would lose to the Colts and complete the tank. Outside of divisional wins, the Texans were winless and primed to select first overall in the NFL Draft, likely landing themselves star prospect Bryce Young. That dream might have been crushed today.
With nothing but two minutes remaining to erase a seven-point deficit, the Texans looked like they were undoubtedly going to lose. They faced a long fourth down and would secure the first overall pick with a failed attempt, but Mills was able to dial up Brandin Cooks for a huge gain to convert. Only a few plays later, the game once again seemed to be coming to an end.
Once again though, the Texans failed to finish the tank and completed a hail mary throw on fourth and twenty to score a touchdown and pull within a point of Indianapolis. Instead of electing to kick an extra point, Houston opted to go for two and ended up completing to take a 32-31 lead. With Indianapolis unable to respond, Lovie Smith was able to win one more time in Houston before being fired just hours after the game. Even though they won, anyone who knows the Jets story in 2020 knows how much of a disaster this could be.
The Bears Could Look To Trade The First Overall Pick To Another Team

With Justin Fields emerging as the franchise quarterback in Chicago, it's clear that the Bears won't be selecting a top quarterback. Although there are some A+ prospects available to select that high, Chicago would benefit more from trading out of their spot for a king's ransom. With that said, there's a good chance that Bryce Young will land outside of the division.
You may ask why in the world we should care about what's going on in Houston after they had such a bad season. Well, the Titans would've said the exact same thing two years ago about the Jaguars being in position to draft Trevor Lawrence and now they're watching from the couch. With Houston's win on Sunday, Jacksonville might have been done a huge favor as the other teams in the AFC South won't have their pick of the litter without trading up.
We'll be completely focused on the Los Angeles Chargers for now, but the future of the division has once again tilted in the Jaguars' favor. Teams like Las Vegas, Atlanta, and Carolina could look to jump up to the top of the board and at the very least any team in the AFC South will have to give up more compensation to have any option they'd like. There will still undoubtedly be younger faces at quarterback in the division, but they'll have to ace their picks to compete with an ever-improving Trevor Lawrence. I wouldn't want to be in that spot.
