Breaking Down How Walk The Mock Works
This mock draft is entirely different from the vast majority of drafts. Instead of having the draft be determined by AI, there are 31 other 'general managers' who are choosing players for their favorite teams. Taking part in a draft like this was a great experience because it provided more of a sense of realism with curveballs being thrown my way, having to interact with other teams, and make quick decisions when on the clock.
This draft was hosted by Broshmo, a YouTube channel that you'll love to watch if you are at all interested in the draft. Obviously, I assume you are since you're reading this article. He offers a ton of draft content year-round and in-depth analysis on pretty much every major player that could be selected in April. It's one of the easiest ways to get well versed with the class and the different players that the Jaguars could consider selecting this year. With that said, let's hop into this draft.
Jaguars Trade Out Of First Round, Steal Anton Harrison at No. 46

An idea I find myself in support of is finding a way to trade back on draft day if that opportunity knocks. When I look back at the selections that Baalke has made on Day 2 of the draft, I really can't complain about it at all and have a ton of trust in the Jaguars' front office to find great additions then. With that said, I was offered a huge deal from the Green Bay Packers to move out of the 24th selection. In return, I was offered the 46th selection, the 151st selection, and their 2024 1st round selection.
Reviewing this trade, I think you could fairly say that this deal is lopsided in favor of Jacksonville. If the Packers were unable to make a deep playoff run, their first rounder alone would be more valuable than what they receive. That said, I don't think it's extremely far off on value and I would've still accepted this trade if it was a second rounder instead. With this trade, we added another selection for this season while adding a second first round pick to build from next season, an important move considering Calvin Ridley could be worth a second round selection.
Two players that I would've strongly considered in the first round were still available at the top of the board, those being Anton Harrison(OT, Oklahoma) and B.J. Ojulari(EDGE, LSU). Since I selected Ojulari in the last draft and believe that Harrison could be a franchise tackle, I went with the Oklahoma product with this pick.
Adding Anton Harrison would completely solidify the offensive line for the Jaguars. Even if they're unable to retain Jawaan Taylor, they already have Walker Little under contract for two more years and could look to move him or Robinson to left guard. Not only does this team have plenty of depth after this selection on the line, but now they can consider their offensive line a strength.
Doug Pederson Completes His Two Tight-End Set With Luke Musgrave

This selection was shaping up to be Will McDonald IV, but he was taken just two selections before by the Miami Dolphins. I would've preferred to select Darnell Washington here at this position as well, but he was gone way before we made our first selection of the night. Luke Musgrave is still one of the best tight ends in this class and comes into the NFL as a well-rounded prospect with plenty of upside. There would even be many right now that could argue he's the second best tight end in this class. That'll happen when you're one of the most impressive players at the Senior Bowl, college football's All-Star Game.
Musgrave has suffered through injury concerns in college, but that hasn't ever scared Trent Baalke from selecting that kind of player. Perhaps Walker Little would be the perfect example of that. Despite the fact that he hadn't played two season, he was still valued highly and taken in the second round. Musgrave possesses a wide variety of skills and upside that would have the Jaguars highly interested in bringing him to Duval.
Mike Caldwell Gets An Aggressive Ball-Hawking Slot Cornerback

We gave a ton of love to the Jaguars offense in some big ways, so it's time we answer what is a top issue on the defense. Tre Herndon performed at a respectable level to wrap up the season in the nickel, but you're better off upgrading at that position and using Herndon as an insurance policy. With our third selection, we brought in Tre'Vius Hodges-Tomlinson, a big-play, big-hitter cornerback who would fit in almost perfectly with the Jaguars' secondary.
Hodges-Tomlinson didn't disappoint for TCU on the boundary, having produced multiple turnovers and playing a huge role in their run to a National Championship appearance. The way I see it, you'd prefer to take Brian Branch, but if he's not available, you're going after guys like Clark Phillips III or Tre'Vius Hodges-Tomlinson. This was our last shot at one of them, so it was the obvious pick to make. With this addition, you now have three starters you're comfortable with and an insurance policy if someone goes down midseason.
Jaguars Bundle Late Selections To Bring Xavier Hutchinson Home

Xavier Hutchinson coming back to his hometown to play in the NFL would be the perfect way to finish the second day of the NFL Draft. With ten selections overall and his descent through the draft, I managed to trade up with the Washington Commanders to acquire the 98th selection in the draft. In return, I sent the 127th selection, the 151st selection(acquired from the Green Bay Packers), and the 161st selection.
I think this trade would favor the Washington Commanders, but I feel that we need to consolidate these selections to move around and select guys who are worth more than their selection. I value Xavier Hutchinson more than the three picks it took to acquire him, so this trade would be worth it to me. After bringing in 'X', the Jaguars would have a young, talented player they could develop to eventually take over in a big role on the offense.
The Jaguars Found Immense Value And Acquired Future Capital, But Still No Answers For The Pass Rush

As a Jaguars fan, I would be thrilled if this team was able to capitalize on falling prospects and even acquire a premier selection for the next season, but the one clear missing piece to this draft is an addition to the pass rush. There was one clear opportunity to do this at the first pick, but I ultimately decided to double down on protection for the offensive line. I feel that this approach gives you long-term solutions on the offensive line and even if the Jaguars can't add more than what's in-house to the defensive line, they have a slew of players that could take a big step forward.
If I could change anything from this draft, I would have strongly considered moving ahead of the Miami Dolphins to select Will McDonald IV. I think that selection would have provided more value to the Jaguars and they could have looked to address tight end later in the draft. Selecting Luke Musgrave was a good response to the situation, but the Miami Dolphins ultimately won that game.
If you would like to use Walk the Mock, you can sign up on their website. I would recommend getting the annual subscription and using the code 'BROSHMO50' to get 50% off. After that it costs $15 a year, a small price to pay for what you're offered. It was a fun experience to take a part of and I believe we'll shift our official mock drafts over to this platform for the rest of this offseason. You can view our entire draft here.
