The Cardiac Cats Strike Again With Pick Six In Overtime To Defeat 10-3 Cowboys
DUUUVAAAL. Whether you can believe it or not, the Jaguars have defeated one of the NFL's hottest teams in the Dallas Cowboys against all the odds. It wasn't just one big moment, but it was a complete team effort that didn't end until the bell rang to the tune of the Jaguars. Honestly, I can't do this game enough justice with a recap so if you didn't watch the game, you need to check it out yourself. Nevertheless, let's dive into this.
This game was seemingly over early in the third quarter. The Jaguars were down 24-10 and just threw an interception on a crucial drive for the first time since Week 8. The Jaguars defense hadn't been able to make a stop since the very start of the game, and I was on my way to grab my keys and take a drive. However, as usual I changed my mind and kept watching.
Despite the momentum shift, the Jaguars were able to hold the Cowboys to a field goal and keep within 17 points. That lead may seem insurmountable, but there was enough time to flip the script. Then they did. For the first time this year, the Jaguars were able to heave a huge passing touchdown as Zay Jones flew past the secondary. Just after cutting down the lead to two possessions, Rayshawn Jenkins came up with his first big interception of the game that was converted to a touchdown by the offense. A few minutes later, Jacksonville scored again and had a 31-27 lead with all the momentum.
Then the Cowboys came back and took a 34-31 lead late in the going. Trevor Lawrence had to lead another game-winning drive and made a crucial mistake with a fumble that was recovered by Micah Parsons. The game was seemingly over again, and all Dallas needed was a first down to win. Then the Jaguars defense came to life and forced a punt that gave the Jaguars one more chance. Lawrence struggled, but after some huge throws to get within field goal range it was all tied up thanks to Riley Patterson. Overtime.
To finish this long recap, the Jaguars received the ball and immediately went three and out. Miscommunication and penalties killed what could've been the game winning drive and allowed Dallas a chance to win on offense. Their drive began with a huge gain on the ground, a common sight this afternoon, but then the play of the day happened. While trying to convert for a first down, Rayshawn Jenkins was able to catch a deflected pass and weave down the field for a game-sealing pick six.
These New Era Jaguars Have Begun To Live For The Big Moments

You cannot emphasize enough how much of a change this team has undergone since their five-game losing streak in October. Myself, among with many other fans, felt like this team didn't have a clutch bone in them, but boy oh boy were we wrong. Jacksonville could have gone quietly into the night by dropping big games against Baltimore and Dallas, but this team is different. Doug Pederson told this game that they needed to get it in their head that they plan to be playing in January and February, it's apparent that the team bought that message.
The way that Jacksonville has shown up in the biggest moments since the bye week reminds me of the Kansas City Chiefs. Now let me make this clear, the Chiefs are in a league of their own when it comes to being clutch. However, what I find so similar is that even when it looks like a game should be over, both of these teams can find an improbable route to get back into it. The Chiefs won their first Super Bowl with Mahomes because of this characteristic and our fans should be thrilled to know their team may carry some of that same advantage.
Even if the Jaguars are 6-8 right now, it sure doesn't feel like it. This team could be so much better than their record if it weren't for a handful of mistakes early in the year. All that matters is that the Jaguars are able to point their way into the playoffs, and winning games you're not supposed to is exactly how you do that. In a stretch of games that should've kicked off another long losing streak and more offseason conversations, the Jaguars went 3-1 to turn the improbable into possible. As of writing this, we'll be holding our breath that the Chargers can defeat the Titans and give Jacksonville complete control over their own destiny.
