Jaguars Break Through to Sweep Titans and Take the AFC South Throne

The Jaguars Found A Way To Win When They Absolutely Needed It

For about 57 minutes of regulation, this was the most unbearable game to watch for the Duval Faithful. Nearly 23 years after the Titans ended Jacksonville's best season in our home, it seemed like we were in for another dose of pain from our hated rivals. Tennessee came out with a fantastic plan to stop the Jaguars and found success on almost every crucial play early on. Joshua Dobbs was calm, cool, and collected and put up a performance(until the last minutes) that made it clear the Titans weren't maimed with the loss of Tannehill.

Trevor Lawrence wasn't ever able to gain his footing in this game. He started off strong in the passing game but soon enough was missing wide open receivers in brutal fashion. There's no doubt that the Jaguars would've been in charge if it weren't for those mistakes. However, this version of the Jaguars isn't just about Trevor Lawrence and we'll have to learn that. As important as he is, there are other players on this team that mean just as much to the Jaguars right now. That will likely change in time.

The defining moment of this game came in the final moments of the regular season. While down 16-13 without the ball, Rayshawn Jenkins came around the side and made contact with Josh Dobbs' throwing arm which caused a fumble. Almost as if it was destiny, the ball bounced to Josh Allen who returned it for the game-winning touchdown. For a player who had experienced career lows in the middle of the season, you can't feel anything but joy for how he finished this last month.

The Curse Against The Titans May Be Broken Now

Any other version of the Jaguars would've lost this game given the context late in the going. Barring something outlandish, I have no doubt of that in my mind. Doug Pederson didn't just wipe away the stain of 'He Who Shall Not Be Named,' but I believe he also wiped away the notion that this team can't beat the Titans in the biggest moments. Make no mistake about it, this game was the biggest matchup this team has had in regular season history. Winning it didn't just give a great finish to one of the best stories this year, but I personally believe it broke this franchise's biggest curse.

For fans who had to live through the early season of the Jaguars, I'm am thrilled for you all being able to watch this team overcome the 'two-tone blues.' Even if this version of the Jaguars isn't the most talented we've seen, they have something that the Jaguars of the past didn't. A complete lack of fear. Before Jacksonville faced Tennessee in the AFC Championship game, Jimmy Smith said he felt that they were going to lose. That epitomizes the old mentality that's been replaced with the unwavering belief that this team can always find a way to win.

I believe that the events of last night will be the cornerstone that years of success will be built from. This division will regroup and rebuild to take on the Jaguars, but this team shouldn't be doubted as the favorite anymore. Not only do they have the best roster in the division, but they have a superior mentality and the ability to overcome any obstacle in their path on any given day. For what the future holds, how could you be anything but excited and relieved?

Jaguars Will Likely Host Justin Herbert And The Chargers

As I write this article, the Ravens are being blown out by the Bengals which would lock the Los Angeles Chargers into the #5 seed. Unless they're able to pull off a miracle without many of their star players, this matchup is locked. As fans will recall, these two teams met early in the season in Los Angeles where the Jaguars won convincingly and for the first time in franchise history on the west coast again this team. Even with the Chargers getting back some key players, that should inspire a lot of confidence in Jacksonville.

Jacksonville will likely look a lot different next week. The Chargers have struggled mightily against the run which will likely flip the way the Jaguars offense operates. We could also see some issues arise for the Jaguars secondary if the Chargers try putting up Keenan Allen in the slot against Tre Herndon. Even with that said, I have a lot of faith that the Jaguars can find a way to advance and make a respectable playoff run. If they're able to win, it'll heat up quickly as they would most likely head into Arrowhead to face the Kansas City Chiefs. It's gonna be fun, we'll see you all next weekend at the game! #TitanDown
