Jaguars End the Zach Wilson Era With 19-3 Victory Over the Jets

Jaguars Play Well Against The Jets But Undoubtedly Won Due To A Zach Wilson Collapse

You can never complain about a win, let alone three in a row this late in the year. The Jaguars have manifested a potential run to the playoffs and for the first time since early October, they're expected to make the playoffs with a 52% chance. This game was undoubtedly decided by the Jets offense and Jaguars defense. After an early turnover forced by Quinnen Williams, the Jets were unable to convert to a touchdown and scored for the first and last time.

Zach Wilson was unimpressive and seemingly uncaring during his huge matchup against the Jaguars. He was unable to start many drives and only saw success on sporadic chunk plays. There was also multiple opportunities for interceptions that the Jaguars defense was unable to come up with in which Wilson let the ball hang way too long. No one had confidence in him before this game, but it became apparent when fans were chanting for a change at quarterback and the Jets followed suit late in the third quarter.

What was perhaps the most bizarre part of this was that Zach Wilson didn't even seem to care. Throughout the broadcast, there were multiple times the camera panned to him and he was smiling while talking to teammates. After how bad this game was, it's safe to say that the Jaguars have officially brought an end to the Zach Wilson era and almost undoubtedly to the Jets playoff hopes.

Jacksonville Can Thank Their Lucky Stars For A Long Break Before The Texans

Even though the Jaguars won by a large margin, I believe there's plenty of room for improvement and a long break will help this team regroup. There were multiple opportunities for turnovers that were simply whiffed on and we even saw the offense cough up the ball early once again. If it wasn't for a Trevor Lawrence fumble out of the gates, it's likely the Jets would've never scored a point. Jacksonville must learn to come out of the gates swinging because the playoffs won't let them get away with that so easily.

Before the game against the Cowboys, the Jaguars had a tough stretch that provided a fantastic opportunity. If they were able to advance to 7-8, which they have, they would get a long break to rest and watch their rival, the Tennessee Titans, play their remaining games before Week 18. Because the Jaguars won tonight, there's a chance that they could be guaranteed a shot at the crown in Week 18 before they play against the Texans. If the Titans lose either of their upcoming games, the Jaguars could bench some of their starters and begin preparing for Tennessee. We hope that loss comes on Sunday.

What makes the Jaguars feel even better right now is that the Tennessee Titans won't have Ryan Tannehill likely for the rest of the season. Once again, they'll be forced to rely on Malik Willis who has yet to throw a touchdown pass in the NFL. Unless he has a huge breakout in these next games, the Jaguars should be the clear favorite to win the division. I can say something I'm not used to saying in December. The Jaguars are in an enviable position to qualify for the postseason. They just need to finish strong. Enjoy the break Duval Faithful, you deserve it!
